Enabling a family business for more than 40 years

Since 1983, Barron Machinery in Rathnure, Enniscorthy has been part of the farming landscape throughout Co. Wexford. Seamus Barron started the company initially providing used tractors and ancillary equipment for the agricultural community. Thirty-five years later, the company has evolved into a substantial franchise dealer of quality brands including McCormick, Gregoire Besson, Strautmann, Hardi, Vicon, and Major Equipment. Three years ago, Seamus’ son Barry took over the family business and under his helm is rapidly expanding the company by enhancing its high-quality service to customers.

“We’ve upped our game even further,” commented Barry Barron. “We know that customers require quality machinery, much of which is becoming very technical to operate. But we must also support that equipment with high-quality service and after-sales support. This is an area where we have invested more in facilities, resources and training for our team. We are providing the ultimate customer experience and because we have built our reputation on a solid history of reliable support, by going the extra mile, our business volumes have shown increases of almost three-fold in the past two years. It shows we really mean business!”

Farming is changing in Ireland. Because many small farms have amalgamated under lease-farming programmes, the local market in farm machinery has also come under pressure. There are fewer customers, but demand for larger machines is growing.

“We’ve seen a significant change in the customer base over the years,” added Barry. “That change has put a greater demand on our company to be able to step-up, take control and be a reliable resource for existing and potential customers. As technology is expanding in leaps and bounds, so we have to be prepared to plan ahead for new advancements before it reaches the end-user. That’s why we have invested in and focused on our goal of customer service excellence.”

Carrying market-leading brands boosts the reputation of Barron Machinery because the brands understand the importance of after-sales support. Strong back-up from the manufacturer and high-quality customer service from the dealers benefit the customer – a win-win situation.

“A case in point,” commented Barry. “We have been dealing with Major Equipment for forty years now, and we have been selling their toppers and slurry-handling equipment throughout South and North Wexford. Our top seller is the Major 2600 slurry tanker with a 7-metre trailing shoe. We are well-known for being the ‘go-to’ resource in our territory for slurry equipment and Major is without a doubt the best manufactured equipment of its type on the market. The support we get from Major is just phenomenal. It’s a brilliant company, second-to-none. Their products are far more durable and reliable than anything else out there and customers come to us because they know we will provide not only the best equipment, but the after-sales support they have come to expect.”

So, what of the longer-term future of Barron Machinery? “Our investment and expansion plans include more facilities for technical support and service,” added Barry, “with additional expansion in our parts department to ensure we can grow and maintain market demands. We plan to take on new team members and I want to be knocking on all the doors of our customers throughout County Wexford to show them that we really mean business. The future is looking very positive and I want to continue to show our customers that when they come to Barron Machinery, they will receive the ultimate in after-sales service and the highest quality machinery brands, bar none.”
